A story like no other...so touching and one you don't want to imagine. If you have children it touches you even deeper, it certainly is a story you hope no one ever had to live and then you remember it is someone's story. It will make you laugh, cry and be thankful you read.
Olivia Claire High gives you an inside look at what it is like to be a young mother with a sick child. She takes you through all the hopes and fears she and her family experienced through this time. Her courage of being away from her other daughter and husband for long periods and still held the family together. This book shows that even through the most tragic of experiences a family can hold together and move on. I enjoyed reading this book as it was part of my teenage years because the writer's husband, Joe, was one of my teachers. Thank you again, Olivia Claire High for writing such a powerful book. --Dianna
This story is one of great sadness, but also of great courage, as well. You know when you begin reading that it will be sad, for how can it not be when you're reading of a young child dying. But, that's where Ms. High fools you, because she ends this story on a positive note and leaves you with an uplifted feeling that life really does go on. When I spoke of great courage, I was referring not only to dear, sweet Kari, who suffered from this horrible disease, but of her parents, Joe & Claire High, who at a very young age dealt with this situation with both class and grace. Who among us that are parents can even imagine such an unspeakable thing to have to go through. Throughout Kari's illness both parents did all in their power to maintain a normal family life and I can tell you they succeeded because Kari was my little sister. I will always miss her and wonder what if? But, thanks to my very brave mother, Olivia Claire High, others will know about my sweet sister Kari and that she lived!!
I couldn't put his book down until I finished it. It is beautifully written by one of the most courageous people I know and thankful to be a part of my life. Thank you Claire (and Joe) for sharing Kari's story to us readers.

Olivia Claire's book takes us through the heartbreaking days of Kari's illness, with rays of hope in between the endless days of hospital stays. The details are vivid and portray the strength and love that held the family together despite the toll this devastating disease has on an innocent child and family members. Kari's spirit and personality shine and will remain in the reader's heart forever.

Although I read the first novel Claire wrote about Kari, this edition impacted me far more. I have read all of Mrs. High's books so far. She is a talented storyteller but for this biographical novel, she imparts so much of the real essence of little Kari who was obviously a special little girl who was beyond her years in real understanding of her impending early death. I feel richer for getting to know Kari through her mother's sharing of her story. I recommend this book.
This is the heartbreaking story of a Family trying to deal with the impending loss of a Child. It give an amazing look into what is involved in dealing with leukemia and how it robs you of all strength and how you just try to deal with and enjoy the time left before the disease robs you of that precious child. I personally know the Family and this is a story that I have looked forward to having the privilege of reading for a long time.
